This is the dynamic process of guiding the business as a whole to navigate the opportunities and challenges it faces, in such a way that it helps the business to achieve its business goals.

While a business strategy can be considered a form of a plan, most plans are not business strategies because they lack a lot of the key strategic elements and considerations that a business strategy needs to have.

A business strategy is also distinct from:
  • A one off activity
  • Marketing strategy
  • Sales strategy

Note: The last two items on the list are subordinate to business strategy, because they only focus on one function of the business rather than coordinating what each business function does toward a common goal (like business strategy).

For further information on business strategy and any other terms, it is highly recommended that you download our FREE business glossary via our FREE Resources page. The resources in that section are there to help you get better results in your business, so make full use of them as per your needs.
A professional that leverages their expertise in business strategy to help clients, achieve their respective business goals.

Their consulting work can take various forms including but not limited to the following:
  • Advisory work
  • Implementation focused project work
  • Courses and workshops
  • Outsourced services
  • In-house services
It truly depends, especially because this tends to attract a large time commitment. As long as it would be a win-win arrangement then it's possible to base the bespoke service around one of the following:

  • Enhanced strategy office service
  • Joint venture arrangement
  • Leadership of a strategic business unit

Equally, the responsibilities I'd hypothetically take on would also need to be paired with a mutually agreed list of sign off required and none sign off required actions.

The best thing to do would be to book a discovery call to see if we would be a good fit, both in general and for that specific arrangement. Typically I'd understandably suggest a trial period for those types of arrangements, and the nuances of that would depend on the circumstances.

Even when I've said no to these arrangements in the past, I've still be able to point the business owner to another solution that meets their needs - even if it is with someone else.
